With the rise in prevalence of computers and electronics in our daily lives, it is not surprising that eye and vision problems are on the rise as well.
Of course, it is impossible for most people to stop using computers or devices like phones or iPads especially since most jobs are now done using computers. The only thing that can be done is to find a solution for the problem, and that is where orthokeratology comes in.
What is Orthokeratology?
Orthokeratology is a non-surgical procedure that involves creating gas permeable lenses which alter the shape of the cornea to reduce effects of myopia, astigmatism and hyperopia. It eliminates the need of wearing glasses since all you need to do is put on the contact lenses at night, and in the morning your eyes will have a clear vision.
Unlike having standard glasses or undergoing an eye surgery, orthokeratology gives you the freedom to engage in things such as contact or water sports given that your eyes have improved vision during the day.
In order to see if orthokeratology is right for you, first a few tests are done to see if your eyes are fit for the procedure. Once it is determined that the treatment will be good for your eyes, you will begin wearing the contacts at night. After the first night of wearing them, you usually will have a follow up exam. If the lenses are not as useful as they are supposed to be, your orthokeratologist can modify the lenses.
